MEME REVIEW MONDAY: Board Games, a Borg Crisis, and Picard's Therapist
OCTOBER 9, 2023 - Hello Everybody! Welcome back to another Meme Review Monday!!! I know you have waited all week for this so let’s get right into it.
First up, we have a meme sent to me by a dear friend and lifelong Star Trek fan (hi Alex!).
I audibly snickered when I saw this meme, which was a bit of an issue considering I was in the middle of a class. So though this meme got me a disgruntled glance from my teacher I still give it a 10/10. It’s a play on a classic joke that never gets old. Poor Miles, always the butt of the joke.
Next up we have a meme from @trekcasttng on Instagram that will feel very relatable to anyone who owns a phone.
In case you are unaware, the government sent out an emergency alert test last week that scared the living hell out of anyone who owns a cellphone; safe to say the test worked. The memes that have come from this are very fun. I believe that if Earth ever does get assimilated the Borg would make great use of this technology. They can now communicate with anyone without even having to use their hive mind! They can just make their phones scream bloody murder.
This next meme is technically a tweet but it made me laugh so I decided to include it.
I had never considered this before. Now that I think about it, why on Earth are people so into Vulcan chess? I get chess is pretty cool but this is the future and given the current trend of rapidly declining attention spans I’m surprised that chess managed to survive. I am a huge board game fan so I get wanting to play board games, but why play them in the environment of your ship? It would be so cool to play a game of Catan but every time you build a place it’s like you are in that environment or a game of Scythe but it feels like you’re on an actual battlefield! I would even just choose to play a board game in a more comfortable place than the hard (I assume) plastic chairs of the ship.
This next meme I got from @trekuntold on instagram but it is technically from Twitter.
I find the idea of Troi just actually being Picard’s therapist very funny. However, if that is true there are at least a couple of HIPPA violations throughout the show. This meme confirms it, the most badass thing a person can do is go to therapy. I also like that Gerry Duggan described the viewing screen as facetiming in, though I suppose that is true.
Next up is a meme from @robintreks on Instagram.
The more I look at this meme the weirder it gets. Why is the vegetable knife shaped like that? Why is fish spelled so weirdly? I’ve never used that pizza knife to cut a pizza. I tend to use these knives interchangeably and thus this implies that I could use a bat’leth to cut my pumpkin pie and a cheese knife for the glory and honor of my house, the empire, and Kahless.
Next up we have another meme from @robintreks on Instagram.
You know it’s bad when he starts yelling at you in binary. I tried to translate this binary code but it’s gibberish. That almost makes it funnier. Data got so mad that he couldn’t even form words.
The next meme was sent to me by another friend and I relate to it so much.
I’m currently a stressed college student going through midterms and the existential crisis Borg is definitely feeling very relatable right now. Existential Crisis Borg is probably a real downer for the rest of the hive mind.
At last we come to the final meme, the meme made by yours truly.
I couldn’t find a transcript of this week’s Lower Decks episode but this feels pretty accurate to Leeta’s proposal. I thought this meme format was absolutely perfect for this episode.
