Michael Dorn Reminisces About An Elevator Ride On a Star Trek-Oriented Episode of The View
Michael Dorn played Worf in STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION.
FEBRUARY 17, 2023 - Elevator chatter is usually very dull, to outright boring. But in a recent elevator oration, the beloved Klingon Worf actor, Michael Dorn of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and five motion pictures including the TOS and TNG cast had a rather unusual experience.
He shared his story on Thursday’s episode of The View, which was a cast reunion where the set was dressed as the Ten Forward lounge from TNG. He reminisced that he trolled Star Trek haters by sharing the following experience:
“It had to be the whole run of the show, I was in makeup, and nobody saw me out of makeup. Whenever I'd go out with my friends or I'd go to conventions, [fans] would literally shove past me to get to these guys," he said, referencing cast members Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Gates McFadden, who sat next to him for the interview. "One time, I was in an elevator at a convention, it was over, and I'm going up. These two guys get in the elevator, and they didn't like Star Trek. They're literally going, 'I don't understand this whole Star Trek stuff.'
"I'm behind them, listening [to them going], 'Oh, I can't believe it, that doesn't make any sense, and that guy that plays Worf, God, he stinks. He's terrible. I don't understand that,'“ the 70-year-old said. "I walked out and said, 'Good evening, guys,' in my best Worf [voice.]"
I’ve met Mr. Dorn, who is as genuine a Human Being as you can find. In the convention circuit, I’ve seen him interact with fans and show personal interest in them. He stops and takes the time to talk with them, always grateful for the time THEY take to come to see him.
And unlike a lot of actors that put the pen down when the two-hour block is up, he will wait until the last person in line has gotten their autograph and for how ever long they wish to speak with him (within reason) he’ll take it.
