Ground has been broken on the future site of a monument to Captain Kathryn Janeway in Bloomington, Indiana. The Bloomingtonian ran a piece last week with a series of photos from the event.
Last December, the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective, led by Peter and Mary Beth Kaczmarczyk, announced that they had secured funding and permission to build a monument to Star Trek: Voyager’s captain, in her fictional birthplace in Bloomington, just in time for the series’ 25th anniversary. The monument was originally due to be unveiled on May 23rd, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizers to push the event back to October.
In the Bloomingtonian pictures, you can see mask-wearing supporters posing with shovels, some with Star Trek-themed t-shirts, and at least one intrepid fan in uniform. According to the piece, the monument will be located along the B-Line trail near The WonderLab, Bloomington’s Museum of Science, Health and Technology. The bronze bust and accompanying informational table is due to be unveiled on October 24th.
