OCTOBER 22, 2020 - A new monument to Star Trek: Voyager’s Captain Janeway is set to be unveiled in her (fictional) hometown of Bloomington, Indiana this weekend.

It’s been quite a journey for the monument, which first announced a fundraiser last year, hoping to complete it in time for Janeway’s (fictional) birthday in May. While they succeeded in reaching their fundraising goal, the COVID-19 pandemic forced The Janeway Collective (the team behind the initiative) to postpone the unveiling...and now the time has finally come.

All this week, the Janeway Collective Instagram account is marking the days up to the unveiling, with some behind the scenes shots and memories. That's ahead of the main event on Saturday, October 24th, at 11am ET. The statue's reveal will be broadcast live on Facebook, and guests at the event in person can get food and drink from a special Janeway-themed menu at the nearby Irish Lion Pub afterward. The day finishes off with a virtual after dark party hosted by Bloomington’s WonderLab Science Museum, where there will be trivia, music and cosplay.

It’s been a long road, getting from there to here...or something. The monument is a fitting tribute to a beloved character, in Voyager’s 25th anniversary year. Visit The Janeway Collective on Instagram for more pictures, or facebook.com/janewaystatue for more information about Saturday’s event.
