Nami Melumad, Star Trek’s first female composer, will score Nickelodeon’s upcoming Star Trek: Prodigy
OCTOBER 22, 2020 - Star Trek: Short Treks composer Nami Melumad will be writing the score for the upcoming Nickelodeon animated series Star Trek: Prodigy.
Film Music Reporter announced the news yesterday, and Melumad’s IMDb page has also been updated, although ViacomCBS hasn’t yet made an official announcement. Melumad’s score for the Short Treks episode “Q&A” gave her the distinction of being the first female composer of an episode of Star Trek. Her work on Star Trek: Prodigy will be an additional honor, making her the first woman to score a Star Trek series.
Melumad’s prior credits include the recent HBO Max feature An American Pickle (starring Seth Rogen) and the Amazon thriller drama series Absentia. Now she joins another trailblazing woman making Star Trek: Prodigy: Kate Mulgrew, who was recently announced to be reprising her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway in the upcoming series.
