Sir Patrick Stewart and Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry to be honored with Young Artist Academy special merit awards

Sir Patrick Stewart for the Young Artist Academy

NOVEMBER 20, 2020 - The Young Artist Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating, protecting, and mentoring young artists in Hollywood, will be honoring two members of the Star Trek community this weekend. The 41st annual awards gala will be held as a digital ceremony, tomorrow, Saturday, November 21st, 2020. This year’s awards theme is “Family” and is meant to highlight a rekindled appreciation for loved ones after an especially difficult year.

First up, Sir Patrick Stewart is being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented by Star Trek’s own Jonathan Frakes and Rod Roddenberry, along with his good friend Sir Ian McKellan. Roddenberry himself is also set to receive an award: Star Trek legend George Takei is set to present him with the Contribution to Science Award.

Those aren’t the only connections between Star Trek and the Young Artist Academy, though: Wil Wheaton is a former special merit recipient, Star Trek guest star Kelsey Grammer is set to receive an award this year, and actors Doug Jones and Tim Russ are expected to present.

The 41st Young Artist Academy™ awards will be streamed on YouTube, this Saturday, November 21st at 4:00pm PT, and will be available on VivaLiveTV. Admission is open to the general public with purchase of a ticket, and ticket holders will have opportunities to interact with fellow attendees during the awards show with video, messaging, trivia, games and prizes.
