Star Trek: Discovery’s Red Angel suit is winging its way to Star Trek Online

Star Trek: Discovery fans, it might just be about time to log into Star Trek Online. In a blog post yesterday, Cryptic Studios announced an exciting upcoming addition to the game: a wearable Red Angel suit from Discovery season two.

The suit will be the grand prize in an upcoming special event, the details of which they kept pretty sketchy. Here’s what the blog had to say: “As part of our upcoming content release, from June 30th to July 30th, PC Captains playing Star Trek Online will have access to a special event. We want to give you the details now to prepare - but the name of this event might be a bit of a spoiler, so we’ll have to hold that back.”

So what about that suit? Star Trek Online said that the Red Angel suit will be the grand prize in the mystery event. If you play the game and want to earn it for yourself, make sure to clear  your calendar; you’ll need to log in and do daily tasks for a minimum of 20 days while the event is on. It requires 40 “daily progress” and you can earn up to two daily progress per day. There will also be an option to buy out your remaining progress with Zen (which equates to real-world money), just in case you don’t quite make it.

Now, if you do complete the requirements, you’ll be rewarded well. The Red Angel suit comes with some cool abilities and animations. Wearing the suit, you can revive yourself, you can send out temporal shockwaves, and even a cool EMP. Star Trek Online have helpfully clipped videos of each of the special abilities in action, which you can view in the blog post.

There’s been a little confusion about the timing of this mystery event, compared to the annual Risian Lohlunat Festival, which is often referred to as “the summer event”. Star Trek Online posted on Twitter yesterday afternoon to clarify that the mystery event during which you can earn the Red Angel suit is a totally separate thing. They said, “Making an official tweet here, because we’ve seen the confusion today: the Summer Event will happen this year, it’s not cancelled. It’ll be after the PC event that was announced today, at the same time on both [PC and console] platforms.” That will mean that PC players get the mystery event first, then both PC and console players will get the Risian Lohlunat Festival, and then console players will get the mystery event (which by then, of course, won’t be a mystery).
