Star Trek: Picard crew return to work after COVID-19 scare
JANUARY 9, 2022 - Production of Star Trek: Picard resumed last Friday after more than four dozen cast and crew members tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week. Picard Executive Producer Terry Matalas announced the return to work in a social media post Friday morning. TrekMovie.com independently confirmed that filming has resumed in Los Angeles.
In his tweet, Matalas said, “Back at it this AM”. The message was accompanied by a photo from the set of Picard, featuring an LCARS display from a yet unknown Starfleet vessel.

The halt in production lasted only four days. Those who tested positive for the coronavirus did so upon returning to work from their holiday break. While some of those individuals included “Zone A” personnel (primary cast members), series star Patrick Stewart was not among them and filming was able to resume late last week. With cases of the Omicron variant rapidly moving through the population, the forced break in production after the holiday is almost certainly unwelcome, but likely did not come as a surprise as crews prepared to resume filming following the break.
Production was delayed on the second season of Picard not once, but twice due to the ongoing pandemic. After season two was complete, production on the third season began immediately.
Season two of Star Trek: Picard will begin airing on February 17th. That leaves just a few short weeks to get caught up on all the action of the first season, available to stream now on Paramount+. Download the app or visit paramountplus.com to learn more and subscribe.
