Star Trek: Picard season 3 production shuts down with 50+ COVID-19 cases; star Patrick Stewart not among cases
JANUARY 6, 2022 - The cast and crew of Star Trek: Picard returned from their holiday break on Monday only to have production on season three of the Paramount+ streamer shut down due to multiple COVID cases, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sources tell THR that over 50 positive test results were reported, amounting to more than 10% of the total cast and crew of the show.
Under the COVID-19 protocols implemented by SAG-AFTRA, productions are divided into four zones based on roles and proximity to the lead actors and primary production personnel. According to THR the positive cases impacted multiple zones, including “Zone A,” which includes the primary cast. However, as reported on Deadline.com, star Patrick Stewart is not among those who tested positive.
Star Trek: Picard joins Discovery and Strange New Worlds as franchise shows that have experienced issues with COVID-19 during production. Season two of Picard is due to drop in February on Paramount+.
