Terry and Jeri Both Win Prestigious Awards for Their Work on STAR TREK: PICARD
Hollywood awards season has officially begun. The Golden Globes and the start of the Emmys were just this past weekend and we have so much to look forward to in the coming weeks. On Monday night the 3rd annual Astra TV awards were held and Star Trek took home some epic awards!
The awards show was originally set to be held in August, however, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes they were postponed until January 8th. They were originally known as the HCA TV Awards (HCA Standing for Hollywood Creative Alliance), but were rebranded earlier this year. This award show is unique as it separates TV shows into three categories: broadcast, cable, and streaming, allowing for many awards in each category.
On Monday Star Trek: Picard took home two awards. Jeri Ryan won for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Drama Series for her role as Seven of Nine. You can view her acceptance speech here. Her performance in Picard season 3 was astounding, she definitely deserved this award. Terry Matalas also took home an award: Best Writing in a Streaming Drama Series for his work on the Picard episode “The Last Generation.”
Sadly, Star Trek: Picard did not win every award they were nominated for. Sir Patrick Stewart was nominated Best Actor in a Streaming Drama Series which he lost to Antony Starr from The Boys. Brent Spiner was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Drama Series which he lost to Keri Russell from The Diplomat. Michelle Forbes, who briefly shows up in the episode “Imposters” as Ro Laren, was nominated for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series lost to Regina Taylor from CSI: Vegas.
Star Trek: Lower Decks was also nominated for Best Streaming Animated Series or TV Movie but sadly lost to Attack On Titan.
This year was a competitive year for TV with many super amazing shows getting released. We here at DSTN are super proud of Jeri Ryan and Terry Matalas for the awards they did win and also of everyone else for being amazing enough to get nominated, which is already a huge honor.
Awards season isn’t over yet! The Grammys are on January 15th and Picard has been nominated. To read about those nominations you can read this article.
