STAR TREK Earns Prestigious Peabody Award

STAR TREK Earns Prestigious Peabody Award

Star Trek just won the Peabody Institutional Award! The Peabody Institutional Award “recognizes institutions and organizations, as well as series and programs, for their enduring body of work and their iconic impact on both the media landscape and the public imagination.” Needless to say, Star Trek definitely fits the bill. The Peabody Awards were established in 1938  by the National Association of Broadcasters and they are seen as the Pulitzer Prize in radio. Though today their scope has moved beyond the radio and into the larger entertainment art world, it is still quite a high honor to win a Peabody award.

In addition to recognizing Star Trek with this high honor. The Peabody Board of jurors also announced the 34 winners that “represent the most compelling and empowering stories released in broadcasting and streaming media during 2023.” Their awards are different from the Institutional Award that Star Trek has won, however they are still a big deal. You can read a full list of the winners and their awards here. Star Trek, and these 34 other shows will be honored at the Peabody Awards on June 9th in Beverly Hills. The show will be hosted by Kumail Nanjani, a Pakistani-American stand-up comedian and actor known for his work in Marvel’s Eternals and The Big Sick.

We here at DSTN are so proud of the whole Star Trek team:the actors, writers, producers, directors, designers, and production crew who have all worked so hard over the last 60 years of Star Trek history to make the show the monolith that it is today. Congratulations.
