ViacomCBS and Comcast deal will see streaming service CBS All Access come to Comcast set-top boxes
ViacomCBS has reached an agreement with Comcast that will see CBS All Access coming to Comcast cable.
A piece from Deadline explains that the wide-ranging carriage renewal between the two companies is the first major carriage agreement for ViacomCBS since it completed its merger last December. According to the piece, the deal “includes conventional elements like retransmission but also breaks new ground by bringing streaming service CBS All Access to Comcast set-top boxes.”
CBS All Access will be available on the Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex platforms. The move marks the first time ever that the streaming service will be available through a cable provider. According to Deadline, Comcast will earn a portion of the fee paid by CBS All Access subscribers who sign up through their platforms.
Ray Hopkins, President of U.S. Networks Distribution at ViacomCBS, said of the deal, “We are very pleased to have reached this agreement [...] We look forward to discussing the entire ViacomCBS portfolio with Comcast in the future.”
The piece from Deadline doesn’t give a timeline for when viewers can expect the new service to start.
