CBS and The Television Academy Foundation partner to offer Star Trek Command Training Program internships
NOVEMBER 15, 2019 - CBS Television Studios have partnered with The Television Academy Foundation to offer a new Star Trek internship in 2020. The program will be called the Star Trek Command Training Program, and will be open to graduate and undergraduate college students nationwide. It will be based in Los Angeles and is paid up to $4,800.
From the press release: “Since its television premiere in 1966, the world of ‘Star Trek’ has challenged stereotypes by presenting a diverse and inclusive future and offering an optimistic outlook for interpersonal relationships. The series’ humanistic approach formed the basis of the CBS Television Studios collaboration with the Television Academy Foundation, resulting in a year-round ‘Star Trek’ internship program. Reflecting the core values of inclusion, access and opportunity, this internship experience is designed to inspire and educate the next generation of television leaders.”
Starting next summer, the program will place two interns per semester on a Star Trek series, with hands-on work across several areas of production. Interns will get experience in writers’ rooms, wardrobe design, on-set production, animation and post-production. While the Television Academy Foundation will cover admissions and enrollment, CBS will engage directly with interns by coordinating mentorships and the curriculum.
Alex Kurtzman, Star Trek Head of Everything, said of the program, “When Gene Roddenberry created the original ‘Star Trek’ series over 50 years ago, it challenged stereotypes and championed diversity and inclusion in an unprecedented way. The Command Training Program is our commitment to expanding that inspirational vision across the entire ‘Star Trek’ canon.”
The Star Trek Command Training Program is accepting applications from eligible college students now. Applications close on January 21st, 2020, and selections will be announced at the end of March. To apply, visit TelevisionAcademy.com/internships.
