The Television Academy Foundation has announced the inaugural recipient of its Star Trek Command Training Program internship.

Faith Young, a junior at McDaniel College, in Westminster, Maryland, is a cinema major, and excited to start the program, even as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced it to be a non-traditional internship. “I am a die-hard fan for anything Star Trek!” said Young, in a statement. “This opportunity is a privilege. I am extremely excited to learn from professionals in the industry, and to develop skills that will help me later on in my career. Being chosen for this once in a lifetime internship is something that I am very proud of accomplishing, and I cannot wait for what this program has in store.”

The Star Trek Command Training Program internship was first announced last November. CBS Television Studios and The Television Academy joined forces to create a college internship program that would reflect Star Trek’s core values of inclusion and diversity, while giving students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the television production industry. The program was due to welcome two interns this summer, but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the program to change to accommodate a remote format.

This year’s program will include virtual one-on-one visits with industry professionals, online panels with television industry leaders, and customized seminars with career advice. The interns also get lifetime alumni memberships to the Television Academy Foundation, giving them access to a huge and active career network.

You can find out more about the Television Academy Foundation at televisionacademy.com/foundation. According to the website, information for the 2021 cohort of the Star Trek Command Training Program will be available this November.

Please join me in congratulating Faith Young on her achievement!
