Director Matt Shakman steps away from Star Trek 4
AUGUST 30, 2022 - There have been along the way more questions than answers about the next Star Trek film. Prime or Kelvin? Who’s directing it? Who is writing and even going to star in it? While we thought we knew the answers to most of those questions, one of them is suddenly back on the table.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news last Friday that Matt Shakman, who was set to direct The Film Known As Star Trek 4, has left the project due to a scheduling conflict. Shakman is moving over to work on Fantastic Four for Marvel.
Shakman came on board to direct last summer, following his work on the Emmy-winning series, WandaVision. The search for a new director is underway, and it is unclear whether this latest hiccup will delay the release of the film, which is currently expected on December 22, 2023.
