IDW Unveils New Details and Preview Art For Star Trek: Defiant
JANUARY 13, 2023 - It truly is a great time to be a Star Trek fan!
With Star Trek: Prodigy just wrapping up its absolutely fantastic freshman season, Star Trek: Picard getting ready to air it’s senior (okay, we’re skipping a grade here) season in just over a month, and the announcement that Star Trek: Discovery has just wrapped filming for season 5, we’re as excited as ever for our favorite franchise.
And to make our excitement grow even more, IDW Publishing is giving us yet ANOTHER comic to sink our teeth, and the rest of our senses, into. Its title is Star Trek: Defiant and had been billed as a darker, edgier Star Trek series with an unusual crew.
This new title treats us to the team of Christopher Cantwell, who’ll be writing the series and Angel Unzueta giving fans the artwork. As reported from the New York Comic Con floor in October, it will be drawn from their current ongoing Star Trek series, with Worf stealing the USS Defiant after he has a falling out with Capt. Benjamin Sisko during his mission aboard the USS Theseus.
Worf then hand-picks crew for this mission, which includes B'Elanna Torres, Spock, Ro Laren, and Data’s evil twin, Lore. We can understand how those characters become the ensemble, but Spock? That’s a head-scratcher for sure, but we trust that IDW will explain how it’s possible.
According to the latest update from the creative team:
DEFIANT immediately sets out to break the rules of the Federation and go on a fugitive run from Starfleet with a cast of Trek's best iconoclastic heroes and ne'er-do-wells, each of them straddling worlds in their identities and calibrations in their moral compasses as they embark on a high-stakes galactic manhunt…the Prime Directive be damned.
I guess the name Defiant pretty much says it all. Star Trek: Defiant launches in March.
