Star Trek: Picard breaks CBS All Access streaming records
The premiere of Star Trek: Picard has helped CBS All Access set a number of new records.
The month of January, which isn’t even finished yet, marked a record month for new subscriber sign-ups, surpassing the previous sign-up record, which was set in February of 2019. CBS All Access attributed that record-setting new sign-up activity to a combination of last weekend’s Grammy Awards, a strong month for football, and - of course - the premiere of Star Trek: Picard.
In addition to helping set a record for new subscribers, Picard also set a record itself, for the most total streaming viewers. Last Thursday’s premiere drove the highest volume of subscribers streaming a CBS All Access original series to date, more than doubling the previous record set by Star Trek: Discovery. That makes Star Trek: Picard CBS All Access’s most-watched premiere ever.
Marc DeBevoise, Chief Digital Officer of ViacomCBS and President and CEO of CBS Interactive, which runs CBS All Access, said of the performance: “We’ve seen tremendous continued growth in the service, and the new records we’ve experienced due to Star Trek: Picard, the Grammys and a fantastic season of football are a phenomenal way to kick off what will be a fantastic year for CBS All Access. [...] And we’ve strategically programmed 2020 to bring subscribers an ‘always on’ calendar of must-watch series and events.”
The premiere episode of Star Trek: Picard is now streaming on CBS All Access, and episode two, “Maps and Legends” will be available from this Thursday.
